Quick update
We just got home from UAMS at Little Rock. Ron did not get to keep his appointments for 7/7 & 7/8 because he was too weak to go through it all. Instead, he was admitted to UAMS after a very long wait in their emergency room last night. He was discharged earlier this afternoon because he & I felt like he could get more rest at home. He really wanted to get a CT scan while he was there, but there was a mix-up of some sort in scheduling the CT and there was a very, very long delay in getting it resolved today. I hate when stuff happens on Friday!!! We'll deal with it all when we both have had some sleep and a few days of rest.
The reason that we & the doctors were wanting the CT scan is so we could tell if the chemo pills (Afinitor) are showing signs of of the cancer improving. If it is not, the chemo pills needs to be discontinued. If the scan indicates improvement, Ron will most likely continue the use of the pills.
The current plan is to visit with the home health nurse on Monday and see where to from here. We know that Ron is at a very critical stage.
If you would like to send a note of encouragement to Ron, you may mail it to P.O. Box 1278, Fairfield Bay, Arkansas 72088.
We covet your continued prayers.
Love,
Joyce

Joyce & Ron, I know only part of what you & Ron have been dealing with the last 72 hours and it can be nothing less than disappointing, heartbreaking & physically exhausting. I know that Ron was exhausted Wednesday 7/6 the day before his planned medical procedures at UAMS Thurs 7/7 & 7/8 and due to that exhaustion you both
came to Little Rock on Wednesday after he checked out of the hospital in Clinton so that he did not have to get up so early in his weak & exhausted condition on Thursday to keep his appointments. But even after doing this Ron was too exhausted to keep his first appointment.
The help that you sought from UAMS based on your situation from that point on was met by so many obstacles that should not have existed. UAMS is a world leader in many areas of medicine and I feel that I would be deceased today was it not for the great physicians at UAMS.But as the economy has gotten worse & government funds have been reduced UAMS has made budget cuts including personnel cuts. This may be the reason that their system may have failed you & Ron in so many ways during the two days mentioned above. They still have some great physicians but some of the operating systems they now have in place is having a great negative effect on their patients.
UAMS is the medical institution that you & Ron have put your trust into. But when such an institution that you have put so much trust into has let both you & Ron down in such a critical time of need, as what you have just experienced, it is now time that the UAMS administration & management take note & reevaluate the systems that has failed you.
To Joyce's & Ron's friends who want to communicate with them I want to encourage you to post messages, send emails or notes & letters to them but please withhold your phone calls & personal visits for just a few days. Ron has been so sicK & Joyce working so hard in his behalf for the past few days that they both badly need some uninterrupted rest. Joyce can eventually post a message here when they are ready for your personal visits & phone calls. I know that they both care for you all.
Eventually Ron will likely return to UAMS for the medical procedures or tests that were not performed as outlined above. But if any of you would like to inform UAMS what fine & giving people Ron & Joyce are, and that their treatment by UAMS bears looking into, then you might want to consider contacting the offices of these two people with UAMS administration
