UPDATE-JUNE 04, 2011

Ron saw Dr. C., who is his primary doctor yesterday.  Dr. C. said Ron's potassium is low and the fluid is building up again.  He increased the lasix & potassium for three days to see if it would help.  If not, and history repeats itself, it looks like Ron will have to be back in the hospital next week for the fluid to be drained. I think it will result in an overnight stay..  Ron also has an appointment with his oncololgist at UAMS on Friday.

For those of you who are wanting to express your love and affection to Ron, I would suggest you do it very soon.  I say this because Ron is getting weaker with each passing day.  There may come a time in the near future that he does not feel like talking or visiting.

I remain very hopeful that the chemo will work and Ron will be healed.  If he is, I know that it will be due to God's intervention.

Ron calls me an eternal optimist.  I am also a realist and I know that Ron has a very, very long way to go to pull out of this downward decline in health.  It seems that he fades more with each day.

We are both grateful for God's continued grace and His love.  Thank you all for talking to Him about Ron's health needs.

As always, you have our kindest regards,
Joyce Dobbs

Ron/Joyce, You both show such faith and strength. Ron has traveled every avenue, with many being painful, nauseating, tiring, and down right scary, in attempt to beat this terrible disease. You have each kept your faith in God and I have never heard either of you complain. I just began CM with a 33 yr old man with the same disease. He probably won't live 2 months he has such large tumors in his pancreas. I think of Ron's attitude has given him an advantage throughout this long ordeal. I pray my new young man finds the same peace u both have through our Lord, Jesus Christ. As always, u r both in my daily thoughts and prayers. Kathy.

Kathy, thank you so much for your kind words & continuing to be our friend even though you are no longer Ron's CM.

Thank you also for sharing about your new carcinoid cancer patient. When I read his prognosis & age, it brought tears to my eyes and gave me true chills. It continues to be very difficult for me to understand how carcinoid is still considered rare when I know so many patients with it. I am of the opinion as many other carcinoid patients that I know who believe that the illness is most often misdiagnosed. I do not see how it can continue to be classified as RARE..but then again, I guess I believe that because I live in the Carcinoid World & network with so many who have it.

I know you may not know whether or not the young man is a Christian. I pray that he is, because the loving grace of God will be what gets him through the coming days. Please know, that Ron & I will certainly be praying for him.

You are right about Ron's attitude being one of the things that has given him an advantage in dealing with his illness. He makes a very, very, nice, & sweet patient. OOPS, I meant to also say handsome & thoughtful too!!!

I hope you and the youngins have a wonderful week. Hugs from Arkansas.

Hi Margretta,
It was great hearing from you. I remember meeting you & visiting with you when were all in Pocahontas for Ron's aunt's funeral.

When I read your posting and saw your name, it jogged my memory that you had given me a business card, for which heaven only knows where it is now. So, I decided to look you up online and ran across a story about you that was published in the Memphis Commercial Appeal. Sounds like you have done well in overcoming obstacles & medical issues caused by the auto accident. I know that your focus & reliance on God is what has made the transition much easier.

I'll have to drop Carol a note to thank her for sharing the blog with you. It was kind of you to
take time to send Ron a note here. He seldom posts on this blog but I always share the notes with him.

I sent you a Facebook reqest so maybe we'll catch up there. Til then, let me wish you a good day.

Blessings,
Joyce
