UPDATE 12/04/10
Ron saw his oncologist, yesterday. Dr. M. estimated Ron to have about 10% of his liver functioning. The doctor based his estimate on Ron's labs and other symptoms, i.e., feet swelling. We are trying to think of the news as merely an estimate...which could mean, it might not be 10%, maybe it is more than 10%--but then again, it could be less than 10%. We prefer to believe, pray and hope that it is more than 10%. Ron continues to take an oral chemo pill named Afinitor, which we hope will shrink some of the tumors. Dr. M. is planning on doing scans at the end of December to see if the Afinitor is showing any signs of working. Ron's potassium was low again yesterday, so Dr. M. gave him an IV of potassium. In addition, Ron recieved his monthly infusion of Zometa for the bone metasis.
IF it turns out that the chemo is not working, AND that Ron has only gotten 10% of his liver functioning, options for treatment may be running out. At any rate, we are trying to focus on the present time--and not focus on what the days ahead may bring.
The good news is that the last few days have been better days for Ron. He has felt a tad bit better and is beginning to eat a little better. Hopefully, this trend will continue so he can gain more strength and gain some weight.
Currently, he is feeling more like visiting by phone and in person more so than he has in the last few months. So, if any of you want to holler at him by phone or call and run by for a visit, I'm sure he would be glad to see you. Thank you all for continuing to be part of Ron's support team.
As always, we appreciate your continued prayers and concern.

Dear Joyce and Ron,
Our hearts and prayers go out to you,
at liver functioning being only 10%, I continue to be amazed at Ron's perserverance and determination to do as much as he can.So I side with you on that, maybe its more than 10%,or maybe Ron can function better than most of us in lots of areas, out of his sheer determination.
We think so highly of ya'll, and hope today is a better day, I know you must be swamped with the holidays, and if there is someway we could do something, we WANT TO.
Thasnk you for keeping us posted, we are so very concerned and want to know.Love to you two, Carolyn
