Medical Update for Ron (9/15/10)

Our hearts sank to the floor today when the results of today's scans were shared with us.  The CT report stated that Ron's illness has "significant interval worsening", meaning that it is worse since the prior CT a few months ago.

There are metasis in the lungs that have not been there before. The growth rate of the exisiting tumors were estimated by the doctors at 30%, meaning progression.

The next plan of treatment is to discontinue the Sutent (an oral chemo pill) and replace it with a different oral chemo pill called, Afinitor.  (Please join us in praying  that we will get insurance approval quickly for the Afinitor.)

Ron will also have his Lanreotide bi-monthly injections increased to once a week.  He had his regular monthly infusion of Zometa today & will continue with that monthly.  This is to assist with controlling the bone mets.

Thank you all for you continued prayers, calls, visits, food, cards and other expressions of concern & love.  We love you.

Joyce and Ron,
Just wanted to let you know that you continue to be in my thoughts and prayers daily.

Thanks, Marguerite,
Ron has had a tough past couple of days. Today, he is feeling a bit better and was able to go out for breakfast. We are hoping that his symptoms were associated with the infusion that he recieved on Wed. If that is the case, maybe he will feel better with each passing day--until-the next month's infusion.
Take care.

You are both such inspirations. Your strength is amazing. You continue to be in my prayers.

Linda, thanks for the kind words but I'm not too sure it is appropriate in saying we have "strength". Ron stays without energy and I'm close to feeling the same way. I keep thinking that surely there has to be more than can be done for Ron...but all avenues lead to "wait and see". I have been reading about intercessory prayer and I know that there are a ton of people who are praying for Ron and that is comforting. We both know that God is with us. Thank you for your encouragement. Love, Joyce

Hope today will be a better day. I saw Wendell Saturday at Burger King in Jonesboro. He had his grand kids out to eat. We talked about you and I told him about the blog.It probably is better for him to use the phone to call you. But, I told him I had finally done it, and he may too. You hang in there and Pam and I have you in our prayers.

Ben,
Thank you for writing. Ron always likes news from those that he holds dear. You guys are on that list. So was your Mother. I've heard really nice things about her. I know you all still miss her. Give Pam our regards. Joyce

Mother loved all the neighborhood kids and our block was full of them. David Dame across the street, You were two doors down from the house and our b-ball goal got a workout all the time. The vacant lot across the street saw its share of baseball and football games. Let's see, were you the one that hit the baseball through Miss Bone's apt. window behind the lot, or was that me!!!! Many nights of kick the can and other goofy things. That was many years ago, but it seems like only yesterday. Mother loved you and all the kids we grew up with. You were special to her and it seems we couldn't help getting into some kind of trouble. That carried forward into high school too. But, we turned out OK!! Stay strong!!!!!!
